At this time, the Information Technology Unit’s (ITU) Technology Support Services (TSS) department recommends that Mason-funded computers NOT be upgraded with the newly released Microsoft Windows 8.1 or Apple OS X Mavericks operating systems.
TSS is currently testing Windows 8.1 and OS X Mavericks to determine their compatibility with Mason-supported software. Until testing has been completed, TSS will offer limited support to users who have upgraded to these new operating systems. Should any issues arise with the new systems, TSS technicians will offer their best effort in resolving any issues (but will not be able to guarantee positive outcomes).
Purchasing a new computer
The ITU recommends that Mason-funded computers not be purchased with Microsoft Windows 8 installed unless the computer has a touch screen. If purchasing a new laptop or computer with Mason funding, please contact Patriot Computers. Patriot Computers offers ITU recommended standard laptops and desktops.
