Who may use the service

The Information Technology Unit’s (ITU) Technology Support Services (TSS) department recommends that Mason funded computers not be purchased with the newly released Microsoft Windows 8 installed unless the computer has a touch screen.

TSS is testing Windows 8 to determine its compatibility with Mason supported software. Until testing has been completed, TSS will offer limited support to Windows 8 users.TSS technicians will offer best effort in resolving Windows 8 issues but will not be able to guarantee positive outcomes.

The TSS department will continue to install and support the Windows 7 operating system during testing and preparing for the support of Windows 8.

If purchasing a new laptop or computer with Mason funding, please contact Patriot Computers. Patriot Computers offers ITU recommended standard laptops and desktops, without touch screen capabilities. Patriot Computers

Issues which may affect use

Windows 8 is maximized for use with a monitor touch screen. Since many Mason computers do not have touch-enabled screens, use of this operating system is not currently recommended for general use.
