U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos delivered a policy speech on Thursday to approximately 100 law school students, faculty and members of the media during a private event held on George Mason University’s Arlington Campus.
DeVos was invited by the Antonin Scalia Law School’s chapter of the Federalist Society. She was introduced by Dean Henry Butler and spoke for approximately 30 minutes.
Her speech focused on Title IX, the federal program that mandates how colleges and universities investigate and adjudicate incidents of sexual assault, sexual harassment and interpersonal violence on campus. DeVos said her office will seek public input on the federal guidelines for Title IX and will likely make changes.
Her speech drew protests from about 50 demonstrators outside Founders Hall.
