Internet Slowness and Performance Issues

Over the past week Network Operations has received multiple reports of slow performance to various Internet web sites. Several people have reported that web pages on certain sites are loading slowly, or sometimes not opening at all.

Initial indications are that it may be due to an issue with our Akamai caching service, which saves commonly-accessed images on a local server to improve response time. The vendor believes that problem has now been resolved. Our network engineers are continuing to monitor this issue to make sure the root cause has been corrected.
