October 30, 2013
Effective, Tuesday, December 31, 2013, the Classweb service at the University will be discontinued.
The decrease in the requests for new spaces over the last several years and recent reports of sensitive, personally identifiable information being found on several sites are among the reasons for this decision.
What options do I have to host my course content?
If you are still interested in using a web site, you can request a mason.gmu.edu account. More information about this service can be found on the IT Services web site: http://itservices.gmu.edu. In addition, many departments offer web space. To learn about whether or not your department hosts web space please contact them directly.
You might also consider other instructional technology tools that are available at the University. For a full list of tools available to support instruction, visit the DoIT web site at: http://doit.gmu.edu and click the link for Course Tools.
What will happen to my Classweb content?
After December 31, 2013, public access to all Classweb sites will be removed. You will have until March 1, 2014 to save any files you would like to keep.
How do I save the files on my Classweb site?
Using Secure Shell (SSH) or Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP), you can download files from your Classweb directory and store them on an external hard drive, desktop or other location.
If you have any questions about the discontinuation of the Classweb service contact us at classweb@gmu.edu.
