George Mason University has been named a “Best Value College” by Forbes, which prominently noted the university’s position in the highest tier of research universities as assessed by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
George Mason was ranked 111th among the top 300 colleges and universities, a jump of 69 positions from Forbes’ 2016 evaluation. Mason was also recognized by Kiplinger’s “Best College Values.”
Ranked schools, Forbes writes, “deliver the best bang for the tuition buck.”
“Mason sets itself apart by adopting an ambitious vision of providing high-quality education for all, while creating world-class research to fuel innovation and social change,” said Provost and Executive Vice President S. David Wu.
Forbes ranked six categories in compiling its list: quality of education (based on its annual rankings), alumni earnings, student debt, on-time graduation success, dropout risk and Pell Grant recipients.
“The ranking is both a reflection of the work and quality of Mason faculty as well as an administrative commitment to keeping costs manageable for our students,” said David Burge, Mason’s vice president for enrollment management. “Mason has always provided a world-class education coupled with a lower cost.”
