Costa Rica President to speak at Mason on Friday, sign research agreement

Luis Guillermo Solís Rivera, president of Costa Rica, will take part in a discussion about the historic role of Costa Rica in Central America at 9 a.m. on Friday, March 17, at George Mason University’s Arlington Campus.

After an introduction by George Mason president Ángel Cabrera, Solís will provide a historical perspective of the evolution of Central America´s political, social and economic development.

He will discuss Costa Rica´s unique path and the role Costa Rica has played in Central America. He will also address the risks and opportunities posed by current internal and external forces.

His talk will be followed by a question-and-answer period led by Mark J. Rozell, dean of Mason’s Schar School of Policy and Government.

Solís will also sign a memorandum of understanding between the Costa Rica Health Ministry and Mason’s College of Science for research opportunities, including Zika virus research.
