Survey: How would you use an on-campus health clinic for Mason employees?

A survey to determine what services George Mason University faculty and staff would want available to them at a future on-campus health clinic will arrive in email inboxes this week.

The Peterson Family Health Sciences Hall is slated to open on the Fairfax Campus in fall 2017, with facilities for a clinic that will offer health and wellness  services for Mason employees. The clinic will be located on the second floor of the lower two-story wing of Peterson Hall.

Administrators for the College of Health and Human Services are designing a business plan for the clinic, said Carol Urban, director of the School of Nursing in the college, and PJ Maddox, chair of the college’s Department of Health Administration and Policy. Urban and School of Nursing administrators are overseeing the clinic’s user requirements while Maddox and her team are overseeing the regulatory and business side of the project.

The survey, available online until Nov. 18, will help them determine how and when Mason faculty and staff would use the clinic, said Linda Harber, vice president of Human Resources and Payroll at Mason.

An on-campus clinic focused on health and wellness would be a convenient and helpful resource, Harber said.

The clinic is not meant to take the place of a primary care doctor, Urban said, but will offer services beyond that of an urgent care center. Patients can expect to be cared for by very skilled clinicians geared toward great customer service, Urban said.

The 160,000 square foot Peterson Hall building was made possible by an $8 million gift from the Peterson family and will be the new home of the College of Health and Human Services. An elevated, enclosed bridge walkway will link classrooms and administrative offices with the health institute.
