Nominations are being accepted for the sixth annual Alan and Sally Merten Family of the Year Award to be presented during Family Weekend, Oct. 14-16. The award was established to recognize the critical role families play in the student experience at George Mason University, and to remind us that families are an essential part of the student support network.
All Mason undergraduate students can nominate their families either through an essay of no more than 1,000 words or a video not to exceed three minutes or 500 MB. Nominations will be judged on evidence of family support for the student’s college success, evidence of the family’s enthusiasm for Mason, and the ability to articulate why the family deserves the honor.
Nominations must be received by 5 p.m. Sept 28. Go to masonfamilyevents.gmu.edu/gallery/ for the nominating form and instructions.
The winner, chosen by a panel of university representatives, including faculty, staff, and graduate and undergraduate students, will be notified by Oct. 7 and receive:
- A commemorative plaque.
- A refund of all fees associated with Family Weekend, if paid in full and up to $300.
- Merchandise from the University Bookstore worth $200.
- A featured article on the George Mason University website.
- A featured cover photo in the upcoming Mason Family Calendar print publication.
