Note to readers: This story has been updated to reflect that the road closures will start May 31 instead of May 23.
The construction of the Peterson Family Health Sciences Hall on the Fairfax Campus of George Mason University requires new road closures beginning Tuesday, May 31.
The closures will continue until Aug. 22, said Thomas Calhoun, vice president of facilities. The timing of the closures during the summer months between May Commencement ceremonies and the beginning of fall semester in late August is intended to minimize disruption, but, he said, “it will be a challenge getting around campus this summer.”
Most of the disruption will take place at the north entrance of the campus at George Mason Boulevard and University Drive, making it impossible to travel completely around Patriot Circle. Patriot Circle will be closed between Occoquan River Lane and Merten Hall as well.
The George Mason Boulevard closure will compromise the accessible parking area near the Finley Building and Thompson Hall. That parking will be relocated to Level 1 of the Rappahannock Parking Deck where transportation by golf cart to campus destinations will be available from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The metered parking at Finley will also be closed.
Access to the Merten Hall 30-minute parking lot may be limited at times during the closure.
A map of these closures is available here. Updates will be sent to the campus community throughout the summer. For more information, visit Building Patriot Pride or contact Parking Services at parking@gmu.edu.
