George Mason University is being recognized by WorldatWork with its Work-Life Seal of Distinction for the fifth year in a row—that’s every year the award has been up for grabs.
The award honors organizations that demonstrate leadership in workplace strategies that help faculty and staff with work-life effectiveness.
Mason is among 116 employers—including Texas Instruments, Caterpillar, Humana, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Yale University—recognized for creating a workplace culture that supports work-life balance and for being an employer of choice, according to information released by WorldatWork. The award winners are companies that support employees at work and at home in areas such as health and wellness, workplace flexibility, financial education, and time off.
“This is a collaborative effort,” said Linda H. Harber, vice president of Human Resources and Payroll and faculty/staff life. “Mason offers a wonderful array of opportunities through many campus departments and organizations that make a difference in the lives of our faculty and staff.”
The university is also working to expand family support opportunities, said Janet Walker, life/work connections manager for Human Resources and Payroll.
“We’re focusing on ways to support faculty and staff in their caregiving roles,” Harber said.
In addition to an online survey on family support, planning is underway for spring break camps at Mason, to provide care during work hours to children of Mason faculty and staff. The camps will be held March 21-25. Registration for the camps will be available on the Human Resources and Payroll website.
Seal of Distinction recipients will be honored on March 9 at a gala held during the WorldatWork Future of Work Forum in New Orleans. For more information, visit www.worldatwork.org/sealofdistinction.
