Notifications of early acceptance to those applying to enter George Mason University in fall 2016 will be available Dec. 15. The notifications will be sent through personalized VIP portals created by prospective students to start the application process. Links to the portals, which have password access, will be sent via email.
Previously, notifications to prospective freshmen were sent by regular mail. Prospective graduate students, depending on the college, were notified by regular mail or email. Although that notification process will continue, the electronic notifications will let Mason create more excitement and opportunities throughout the admissions cycle, said Amy Takayama-Perez, dean of admissions.
It also creates the opportunity to reach the entire admitted applicant pool on one day. Applicants can share their acceptance notifications on social media using #ChooseMason.
“We took several months to build this process, but we have known this was the direction in which we wanted to move to be more accessible to students and create additional efficiencies in our operations,” Takayama-Perez said. “Many universities notify their students in this manner, and the experience is consistent with how students prefer to be communicated with.”
