Republican presidential candidate and former governor of Virginia Jim Gilmore will deliver a domestic and foreign policy speech at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at George Mason University’s Arlington Campus.
Gilmore, who was governor of Virginia from 1998 to 2002, is the sixth candidate for president to appear as part of George Mason’s “Issues Forum 2016,” hosted by Mason’s Center for Politics and Foreign Relations in the School of Policy, Government, and International Affairs. The series is co-sponsored by The Financial Times.
“Gov. Gilmore’s insights go beyond the presidential campaign,” said Robert Guttman, director of the Center for Politics and Foreign Relations. Gilmore was chair of the Republican National Committee and the National Council on Readiness and Preparedness, and has been a counterintelligence agent.
The center “is committed to bringing all the presidential candidates of both parties to express their views and goals to Mason students, staff and interested citizens,” Guttman said.
Bernie Sanders, George Pataki, Lawrence Lessig and Jim Webb have delivered policy speeches in the center’s series. Former Rhode Island governor Lincoln Chafee announced his candidacy during his Mason appearance.
To commemorate university namesake George Mason’s 290th birthday, visitors will be invited to free birthday cake before Gilmore’s appearance.
Gilmore will speak in Room 118 at Founders Hall. Admission is free but seating is limited. Reserve a seat by emailing rguttman@gmu.edu.
