Y. Tony Yang, associate professor in the Department of Health Administration and Policy, received the American Public Health Association’s (APHA) Early Career Award for Excellence in Public Health Law for 2015. Yang was presented with the recognition on November 2 during the Law Section awards ceremony at APHA’s annual meeting in Chicago.
Yang has drawn on his background as a lawyer, policy analyst, and health services researcher to author more than 40 peer-reviewed articles. He has been published in many leading medical journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine, The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), the American Journal of Public Health, Health Affairs, and the Journal of Empirical Legal Studies.
“To have the American Public Health Association, particularly the Law Section, recognize one of our early career faculty members is a testament to the quality of research Dr. Yang is conducting,” said P.J. Maddox, chair of the Department of Health Administration and Policy. “Dr. Yang is already widely recognized for his work on legal issues in health care, and this award emphasizes the importance of his research.”
The Early Career Award for Excellence in Public Health Law is presented annually to someone who demonstrates “great promise as a future leader in the field of public health law.” Eligible recipients must demonstrate major contributions in one of the following areas: research, teaching and mentoring, practice, and advocacy. The award recognizes individuals who have completed their terminal degree within the last 10 years.
