Mason Appoints David Burge as Vice President for Enrollment Management

David Burge will join George Mason University as vice president for enrollment management, effective July 6, 2015, Provost and Executive Vice President S. David Wu said.

Burge comes to George Mason from Arizona State University (ASU), where he has served as executive director of admission services since 2010. In that role he oversees all recruitment and operational functions for undergraduate and graduate student enrollment, including data analysis and budget management.

Burge will be responsible for all aspects of enrollment management at Mason, including student access, admissions, student recruitment, financial aid, pathways and community college relationships.

Since 2010, ASU has achieved a 16 percent increase in the size of its freshman class and a 52 percent increase in the number of new transfer students. New graduate student enrollment grew by 9 percent after graduate student admissions processing and recruitment was consolidated into the division of Enrollment Services in 2013.

Prior to Arizona State, Burge was associate dean of admissions/recruitment coordinator for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 2003 to 2010.

From 2004 to the present he also has served as an associate consultant for Ruffalo Noel-Levitz, an enrollment management consulting firm, in the division of web and interactive marketing. He was at the University of Kansas from 1998 to 2003 as a high-ability counselor, assistant director for Transfer Recruitment and Web Services, and left as interim associate director for recruitment.

He earned a bachelor of general studies in English literature and a master of science in education, educational policy and leadership at the University of Kansas.

His leadership and committee activities include roles as president of the Great Plains Association for College Admission Counseling; membership on the Technology Committee of the National Association for College Admission Counseling; and a member of the Admissions and Enrollment Services advisory group at the College Board.

He and his wife, Kyttra, have three children, Darby, Fletcher and Leo.
