Cybersecurity Symposium: Mason Forum Aims to ‘Demystify’ Hacking

Leaders in the field of cybersecurity will share their thoughts on emerging issues Wednesday night during a symposium hosted by the George Mason University School of Law and Mason’s student-edited National Security Law Journal.

“Cracking Cyber: A Discussion with General Counsel to Demystify the Hacking Phenomenon” begins at 7 p.m. on April 8 at Founders Hall Auditorium on Mason’s Arlington Campus. Admission is free, and refreshments will be served beginning at 6 p.m.

“Cybersecurity is an evolving field, it’s the new frontier in national security law,” says Alexander Yesnik, editor-in-chief of the journal and a fourth-year evening law student.

“We are excited to bring such high-profile speakers to Mason who can speak to how their departments are wrestling with the challenges posed by this domain. Cyberspace—and in particular, cybersecurity—still represents a relatively unexplored area of the law. We have a great opportunity to shape the national conversation on this topic here at Mason.”

Panelists for the forum include:

  • Joseph Maher, Principal Deputy General Counsel from the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Renn Gade, Senior Legal Counsel from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
  • Eliana Davidson, Deputy General Counsel from the Department of Defense.

Admission is free, but advance registration is encouraged at www.nslj.org.
