UPDATE: New location announced for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's Conversation with Tyler Cowen

Update: Due to inclement weather, the “Conversations with Tyler”  event originally scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26 at  George Mason University’s Arlington Campus has been moved. Mason economist Tyler Cowen and his guest Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will appear at The Westin Arlington Gateway Hotel, 801 N. Glebe Road, Arlington, Va., from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

The event is at capacity but it can be streamed at mercatus.org/live. The “Conversations with Tyler” series is hosted by Mason and the Mercatus Center at Mason.

Here is the original announcement that was posted in November:

Basketball great, author and social activist Kareem Abdul-Jabbar joins George Mason University professor Tyler Cowen in a conversation-style interview at Mason’s Arlington Campus in January.

“Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is one of today’s leading public intellectuals,” said Cowen.

Abdul-Jabbar, a U.S. global cultural ambassador, has written books of fiction and nonfiction on such topics as African American achievement, World War II and the Harlem Renaissance. His latest is “Mycroft Holmes,” written with Anna Waterhouse, a mystery novel featuring Sherlock Holmes’ older brother.

Abdul-Jabbar’s appearance is part of a series called “Conversations with Tyler.” Previous guests interviewed by Cowen, who is chair and general director of the Mercatus Center at Mason, include PayPal founder Peter Thiel, economists Jeffrey Sachs and Luigi Zingales, and others. Past conversations, located here, have been viewed more than 200,000 times.

Statistician Nate Silver, founder and editor in chief of FiveThirtyEight, joins Cowen in a conversation on Feb. 16.
