School of Music Invites Community to Sing-Along

In its annual tradition, George Mason University’s School of Music will present a Holiday Sing-Along concert, featuring the Mason Symphony Orchestra and Combined Choruses. The performance will take place on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Concert Hall on George Mason’s Fairfax Campus.

The performance will feature a variety of crowd-pleasing favorites including Arcangelo Corelli’s “Christmas Concerto;” Tchaikovsky’s suite from “The Nutcracker;” choral selections from Brahms’ “A German Requiem,” Op. 45; Mendelssohn’s “Christus,” Op. 97; and select choruses from Handel’s “Messiah.”

This year, the Mason Symphony Orchestra will be led by three guest conductors: Alexandra Morrison, director of orchestras at Centreville High School; PhD student Chad Steffy; and Lisa Billingham, director of the University Chorale at Mason, conducting the Combined University Chorale, University Singers and Mason Symphony Orchestra.

Joining these ensembles onstage will be the Osbourn Park High School Chorus, directed by Dominick Izzo, BM ’13.

“We’re very excited to be presenting the Holiday Sing-Along concert again this year,” says Billingham. “This annual tradition brings together the Mason community, as well as surrounding communities, to celebrate the holiday season.”
